Ruach Atlanta Oct. 13, American Cancer Society Relay For Life

We have a team at Ruach Atlanta Oct. 13, American Cancer Society's Sunday Relay For Life

We have a team at Ruach Atlanta Oct. 13, American Cancer Society’s Sunday Relay For Life

Realizing that many supporters were unable to participate in the annual ACS Relay because of religious restrictions,  Sheryl Blechner, Temple Beth Tikvah in Roswell approached the American Cancer Society with the idea of a separate Sunday relay that, while not faith based, would consider and respect the needs of those in the community who could not participate without compromising their religious beliefs.  Thus, the Relay for Life Ruach Atlanta was born. Ruach, which means Spirit, is the very essence of what the relay is about.  It is about life, survival and remembrance.

To be held this year on October 13 from 1PM-Dusk, at a new location, Riverside Park, 575 Riverside Rd., Roswell, the event will maintain the key components of the relay which will be an opening ceremony, a Survivor Walk (where survivors and care givers will take the first lap) and Survivor Dinner.

Because it’s a team event, individual participants are not required to be there the entire time. But it's so much fun, you'll find it hard to leave!

Schedule:

1:00 PM Opening Ceremony: The Opening Ceremony brings everyone together for a high-energy event kickoff to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to inspire hope by sharing recent accomplishments and progress, and to remind everyone that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority.

1:00-1:30 PM Survivor Lap: During the Survivors Lap, upbeat music plays as all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track cheered on by the other participants who line the track, celebrating their victory over cancer. Please join us for a Survivor Celebration after the Survivor Lap in the Survivor Tent. Lunch will be provided.

Dusk Luminaria Ceremony: The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope.

9:00 PM Closing Ceremony: The Closing Ceremony is a time to remember the lives of those lost and to celebrate that each of us has committed, through our participation in a Relay event, to fight back against this disease over the next year.
