A Soggy Start to State Baseball Playoffs

Pope, Kell and Marietta dodged the raindrops with sweeps, but Walton and McEachern are among those facing delayed rubber matches.

Saturday's rain means that Cobb-area baseball teams needing to play a decisive match in their first-round series in the Georgia High School Association playoffs will have to wait.

With flash flood warnings throughout the metro area through Sunday, those matches are on hold until Monday.

Still waiting to get back on the field in Class AAAAAA are No. 5 Walton, which split a Friday doubleheader, defeating South Gwinnett 10-3 and then losing 8-6, and top-ranked McEachern. The Indians fell to Tift County 4-1 in the opener but roared back to tie the series with an 11-4 win.

Douglas County was swept by Luella, losing by 3-2 and 6-0 scores. Harrison and Hillgrove also were swept, by Colquit County and Lowndes, respectively.
