Friday Football Preview

McEachern and Praise Academy have the night off, but Colonial Hills, Lithia Springs and Hillgrove are all in action.

The 2011 football season is finally here. There has been a spattering of games throughout the area, but tonight is the night where most of the football teams kick off.

Here's what's on the slate for schools in Powder Springs and Lithia Springs.

Hillgrove (0-0) at Sprayberry (0-0)— is coming off its best season in the school’s brief history, and there’s reason for optimism again when they open against Sprayberry tonight. The biggest reason is superstar running back Kenyan Drake, who is committed to play at Alabama next season. Sprayberry will be upset-minded, however, as they try to return to playoff form after last year’s disappointing 4-6 season that included a 23-14 loss to Hillgrove. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Haralson County (0-0) at Lithia Springs (0-0)— won this season-opening matchup 15-0 a year ago en route to a 5-5 season. The Lions enter this season looking for their first playoff appearance since 1981. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Faith Christian (0-0) at Colonial Hills (0-0)— was 8-2 last season, but one of its losses came in the first round of the ICSGA playoffs to Faith Christian. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
