Hawks Looking to Advance to Quarterfinals

Here's what's happening in high school athletics in Powder Springs and Lithia Springs on May 11.

There's only one team left standing in Powder Springs and Lithia Springs: the baseball team.

The Hawks will be looking to extend their season today in the second round of the state tournament when they play Tift County in a doubleheader. The series is a best-of-three.

Hillgrove has never made it past the second round in the state baseball playoffs. Last year, the Hawks made it to the second round of the AAAA tournament before being swept by Whitewater.

If the Hawks want to get through the second round this year, they're going to have to knock off the Blue Devils.

Tift County will be making the 4-hour trip from Tifton for the game. The Blue Devils (21-7) are the No. 2 seed out of Region 1-AAAAA.

The first game is set to start at 5 p.m., followed by the second at 7:30.

If the two team's split today's doubleheader, they will play a deciding game three on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
