Hillgrove Knocked from Softball Playoffs

Losses to Collins Hill on Friday and Mill Creek on Saturday end the Hawks' season in Columbus.

first appearance in the state AAAAA softball championships ended Saturday morning with a 9-8 loss to , the Georgia High School Association reported.

The Lady Hawks finished the season in third place in the state with a 29-11 record.

They were in a great position in the eight-team, double-elimination AAAAA championships in Columbus , 5-4 over Mill Creek and 10-2 over fellow Region 4-AAAAA school .

But they ran into , the two-time defending state champion, Friday night and lost, 3-1.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held on despite making five errors, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported. The Hawks managed only three hits and stranded 11 runners during the game.

That loss knocked Hillgrove into the elimination game this morning against Mill Creek. Hillgrove had to win that game, then defeat Collins Hill twice to take the championship, but it didn’t happen.
