Hillgrove Golf Playing in State Tourney

Here's what's happening in high school athletics in Powder Springs-Lithia Springs Patch on May 2.

When it comes to high school sports in Georgia, the first Monday in May is annually reserved for one thing: the state golf tournament.

At 8 a.m., the  team began its quest for a state championship at Snellville's Summit Chase Country Club. The Hawks qualified for the state tourney after finishing as Region 4-AAAAA runners-up last month.

The Hillgrove team consists of Kurt Brucker, Mason McCurdy, Cam Turner and captains Matthew McKagen, Jeff Pickens and Kevin Tillis. Spencer Bernstein is the team's coach.

Also competing on Monday, even though her team did not qualify, is Kayla Smith from . She was invited to participate in the girls singles event.
