Tucker Ehmig's Game 1 tie-breaking grand slam and Ryan Raper's double and home run in Game 2 helped push theΒ  to a sweep of the Newnan Cougars in the semifinal round of the GHSA AAAAA state baseball tournament Monday.

Newnan jumped ahead early in Game 1 with two runs in the first and one more in the second inning. But Hillgrove has been a come-from-behind team of late, and just as in both of its quarterfinal wins, the Hawks pounced on their opponent after falling behind.

With the score tied 4-4 in the fifth inning, Ehmig launched a ball to left field with the bases loaded, giving Hillgrove an 8-4 lead.

Newnan would score twice, but Hillgrove held off the late advances to win Game 1 of the doubleheader, 8-6.

Hillgrove scored early and often in Game 2, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and adding six more runs later in the game to blank the Cougars, 8-0, to take the series.

Hillgrove has to wait to find out who it will play in the state championship. Parkview and Colquitt split their best-of-three series Monday and will play a deciding Game 3 today.
