Weekend Pigskin Roundup

Each Monday, we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in Powder Springs and Lithia Springs.

McEachern and Hillgrove both registered impressive victories on the gridiron Friday, while Lithia Springs stumbled against Cedartown.

Here's a quick look at Friday's action:

McEachern 20, Lowndes 13

put the rest of the state on notice that a Cobb County team just might be ready to contend for the state championship after its 20-13 win over top-ranked Lowndes in Valdosta.

The Indians rallied in the fourth quarter, then held on defensively to preserve the 7-point victory.

McEachern running back Mike Sherman rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns, including the decisive score with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

The win over Lowndes, coupled with the , has propelled them to the top of the heap in the state’s highest classification.

Hillgrove 48, Marietta 8

running back proved Friday that his skills are not just limited to taking handoffs and running unabated to the end zone. He showed that he can also catch passes and kickoffs and run abated to the end zone.

Drake scored five times—three times on passes, once on the ground and once on a 96-yard kickoff return—to propel Hillgrove past Marietta.

Drake, who is committed to the University of Alabama, has now scored a total of eight touchdowns in his team’s first two games.

Cedartown 33, Lithia Springs 16

took advantage of some early special teams sloppiness by Cedartown to hold a 7-6 advantage at halftime, but after that, the Lions had no answer for Cedartown running back Nick Chubb.

Chubb ran for 215 yards and three touchdowns, most of which came in the second half.

Lithia Springs is now 0-2 on the season.
