Keep the Cross at Ground Zero

This is my own personal feelings in print about why it is important to let the cross stand at Ground Zero in honor of those who are heroes to us.

Keep the cross at Ground Zero!

I took this photo of "The Cross" at Ground Zero back in 2003. That cross is special. The cross stands tall beyond the grey fence surrounding Ground Zero.

It is more than just two giant intersecting pieces of steel. This cross is part of the story of September 11th. It blends so many rescue workers and their stories together.

As more and more of the buildings materials were cleared away, the cross became more and more visible to see across the pit. The cross stands for strength found, a belief as tough or tougher than steel, a pulling together for our losses who were called to heaven that day.

This cross is a symbol of all the people who were taken by crazy people who thought their beliefs gave them the right to steal all those lives from the ground they had walk on and the lives of their loved ones.

So the world has changed too much since those days after September 11, 2001, but for many, the world and their lives have stopped because of it. These people can't feel the sunshine or the gifts of spring, the warmth of the holidays or the days passing with a feeling of wonder.

Those need to find not what they have lost, but a new beginning with a healthy balance of memories. Put that cross in your heart and let it join in the beating of your life.

Let that cross stand!
