Powder Springs American Flags in Sad Condition

Sad condition of the American Flag displayed in Powder Springs!

Driving through downtown Powder Springs, I noticed the American flags are out and waving in the hot, summer breeze.Β  I always look forward to seeing the row of flags lining the roadside as I come and go through the town.

Upon closer look I saw that some, of the flags were in bad shape. Ripped, torn, ragged and stained. I feel this is a bad reflection of the citizens of Powder Springs. I makes us look like we don’t take care of our American flags. I realize that the flags are out in extreme weather conditions. Rain, heat, cold, snow in winter, perhaps, winds as extremes as a tornado are part of the weather in the Southeast part of the country.

I figured if I call the city then either there would be no response or they may tell me that there are flags on order.Β I wanted other citizens to notice what I saw on the ride through town. These flags are not acceptable. The city needs to order more before they get into this condition.

One close friend, Lois Freeland, drove through downtown area after we had a conversation about the flags Β to take a closer look for herself at these flags. She called to find who to talk to about these American flags.Β The receptionist stated that she was not the only one to call about the condition of these flags.

When my friend did not get a response to whom she should speak to in the city goverment, the receptionist stated that there have been more than a few phone calls about the flags' condition and that she would pass on this phoned in complaint. So what happens to all the other reports and phone calls from the other citizens concerned about the disgraceful shape of our flags?Β

Even after getting complaints to city hall the flags are still tattered and flying in Powder Springs as of the afternoon of Tuesday, June 26.

One last point, as I drove past the City Hall of Powder Springs, I noticed that there was a very tall, flag pole in the front parking lot. Only this flag flying on the tall pole seemed small compared to the height of the flag pole. See for yourself, below. Shouldn’t the flag pole and flag be relative in size to each other? Looks like someone may have found an extra flag. Lets run it up the pole!

I know it is better than nothing. I also know that a considerable amount of tax money goes into the Christmas decorations for the town Christmas tree to show our town pride. Yeah, I am not changing the wording of Christmas tree.

I grew up in a suburb in New Jersey and we had a Christmas tree in the town. The town made sure the Christmas and other displays we taken care of with pride. Β The town I grew up in had a large size American flag flying at the city hall, always proudly reminding us of what this country means to it’s people.

Each homeowner or businessΒ  the town of Bergenfield made sure that if their flag was worn, torn, ripped, stained or faded, it was retired in a ceremony held by the local or Veterans of Foreign War.Β

Times have been tough for Powder Springs citizens but we expect to show our pride with glorious red, white and blue flying in the breeze down on main street.

Time to get our front porch cleaned up!
