there's just something comforting about the idea of a yearly family summer vacation ...I say this is…Read More one time we should stay with the status quo ... .

Rich ... concerning unpaid hours ...unfortunately for the teachers they are only paid for class…Read More hours ...but if they did a better job at prioritizing while at work maybe they wouldn't have to do "homework".
And it's not that I pick on the teachers because it's easier ...they just make themselves such obvious and delicious targets when in one breath they say ..."what about the kids?" and in the next breath they say "we want more money ...and not only that but we want you to pay more taxes so we can get more money!"
As a side note ...and I think you know this ...I don't pull the pin, or trigger, on someone unless (s)he really goes out of her/his way to call me out for a duel ... but when they do ...I let em have it ...right dead center mass with a good dose of reality.
I know the teachers aren't getting rich ...but they're not in the poor house either and anyone who tries to cast the teachers as helpless people is in my opinion either stupid, crazy, or simply doesn't know what they're talking about because the teacher's union is quite strong and sure stays outspoken on many issues ... many having nothing to do with education.

First, all my rationale(s) are reasonable, feasible, and sustainable, based on systems theory.…Read More
Second, I don't pull the pin, or trigger, on someone unless (s)he really goes out of her/his way to call me out for a duel ... and you did; As such...I let ya have it ...right dead center mass with a good dose of reality.
Third, that's not being negative ...that's called therapeutically reframing the issue...

Pam J, the internet is No Excuse for being ugly. Just because we have a computer to hide our faces…Read More behind doesn't mean we should say nasty things about other people. I bet most of the things people say on the internet they wouldn't say it to a person's face. And like i said in my earlier comment, some things people say about others is Slander- and that's against the law. Those people from that church better watch what they say about people. That's what i meant about keep it to yourself.

These low life, no account, fungus go do these protests so that people get mad and do violent acts…Read More to the and then they sue for large sums of money. Now as to the question at hand. No, I think they should not be getting the media coverage that they get. Yes, I think counter protesters should continue.

ok ...let me get this right ...the CCSD is looking at a $60 million defecit for 2015.
AND THE…Read More TEACHERS WANT A RAISE ...!
To be sure, being lectured by the CCSD on fiscal responsibility seems a lot like debating the Patriot Act with Osama Bin Laden
stephen m george jr mpa May 17, 2013 at 08:37 am
Hypothetically speaking, which candidate would you vote for:
(a) the one running on a fiscal…Read More responsibility platform or
(b) the one running on a platform of raising taxes?
Apparantly, the teachers think most people would vote for option b. Personally, I think they've been snorting too much no. 2 pencil graphite dust.

Stephen, we can assume from your statements above that you believe that if you did not serve, you…Read More are merely riding the coattails of those who did. Further, you clearly have disdain for these children, whom you describe as "teenaged juvenile delinquent wannabees". It's unfortunate that people who share your views have such a loud voice in our county. As cliche' as it sounds, children are indeed the future. If they are delinquents it's only because the adults have allowed them to be that way - kids reflect the adults around them.
So, in disparaging people for not doing what you do (or did) and making broad generalizations about the worth of various groups of individuals, and denigrating the work of people whom you don't like you become part of the problem.
If you want to know why kids lack respect, I would suggest considering your attitude as emblematic of the attitude of many people around here. Respect is earned based not on your achievements, but upon your character. Disrespecting others and then expecting respect is illogical.
Mama, taxation is not an invasion of civil rights, it is the price for living in an orderly society. The early Americans battled britain not over taxes, per se, but because they wanted to have equal representation in the parliament. Public officials are not making "huge salaries" nor are undocumented illegals anything close to a real problem in our schools. Get over it.
stephen m george jr mpa May 17, 2013 at 11:51 pm
First, I was answering the call while you and yours were playing Call of Duty.
Second, the problem…Read More with the children is everyone wants to be their kid's best friend ...as a father I by definition will NEVER be my child's friend ...I'm her father, she has the rest of her life to make friends.
Third, I merely answered Amy's implied challenge ...And I quote: ". I would love to see you be a teacher for a day, let alone 180 days."
Fourth, calling it like it is is not disrespect ...it's speaking the truth. The problem is people are so used to deceit and treachery that when they come upon someone like me who is up front and honest, with no BS, they can't handle it ...
Fifth, regarding the obvious lack of respect you have for me and my peers: “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” George Orwell.
Sixth, I don't expect anything from you except to be feared and loathed: "no prophet is accepted in his hometown." Luke 4:24

comments as follows: "Brad Johnson (Cobb BOE CFO) said his estimates were revised up from…Read More nearly $80 million earlier this year, largely due to rising insurance costs for district employees" ( http://southcobb.patch.com/articles/furloughs-proposed-for-cobb-schools-e2d9ed56-4073fa1a ) which means "the general budget is in trouble" not because of "economic conditions" but because of rising health care costs which is proximately caused by teachers becoming unwell because of their visceral adipose tissue (VAT)

This article is as news worthy as a used toilet paper recycle study, come on people find something…Read More that is good to report not something that happened to America that is a black eye!

Wow, I'm against spending money unnecessarily, but all the quotes of the people who spoke make Cobb…Read More county look like redneck idiots. By the way, I'm a so-called liberal and a yankee AND a fiscal conservative. The social conservatives have their priorities all backwards. Fiscal conservatism is important. That doesn't mean not spending. You SHOULD spend a lot on education. Especially math education, since our nation is failing in that. However, buying brand new textbooks when you could pay for a bunch more teachers is a stupid idea. Teachers > Books (for those who are math illiterate, that was teachers are greater than books).
The reason I'm against the new textbook purchase, for now, is because textbooks are just supplements to good teaching. Any decent math book can be used to teach the core curriculum, with some common supplements agreed upon by the board. I imagine the county already had decent math books.
