He is the Georgia EMS Educator of the Year.
Georgia Emergency Medical Services has announced the winner of its EMS Educator of the Year award, and the recipient is a local. During the recent Georgia Emergency Medical Services Awards Banquet at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Cobb EMS Coordinator Larry Causby was recognized for contributing "significantly to EMS education at the community, regional, and/or state level," Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman Denell Boyd said. "The person must be someone who not only does the job, but far exceeds the expectations of the employer and the community," she said in a statement. "The individual is an example of what a true role model/community hero is."
He was among 26 metro area law enforcement officers who graduated from the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy.
Twenty-six people graduated recently from the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy, and three of the graduates are from Cobb-area agencies, Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren said. The 10-week academy covered state laws, criminal procedures, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, search and seizure, and other law enforcement related subjects. Cobb graduates included Officer Jeremy Boatwright with the Powder Springs Police Department and Officer Travis Smith with the Southern Polytechnic State University Police Department. Lt. Four people, including one man from Powder Springs, have been arrested on drug-related charges after police found more than seven pounds of marijuana in their Kennesaw Extended Stay America Hotel room. About 8:45 p.m. Sunday, there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the room at the Busbee Drive hotel. When officers opened the door "smoke came billowing out," a Cobb police officer wrote in a Cobb County criminal warrant. Marijuana, a glass pipe with marijuana residue and a glass jar containing marijuana were "found in plain view," according to the warrant. Officers obtained a search warrant and found even more drugs. When Derrell Lamar King was prohibited from taking his 5-month-old daughter, tensions escalated Friday inside a Powder Springs home. According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, the Smyrna man went to his wife's home in the 2400 block of Chauncey Lane just after 7 p.m. May 10. When he attempted to take their daughter, his wife "did not allow a transfer of custody based on her husband's history of abuse," a Cobb police officer wrote in the warrant. King allegedly punched and kicked his wife, who was taken to a local hospital with multiple bruises to her arms. King faces a charge of battery, a misdemeanor offense.

A 46-year-old Hiram woman was killed and her 14-year-old son was injured Wednesday in a three-vehicle accident in West Cobb. About 12:53 p.m. Wednesday, Delores Sibert of Hiram was driving eastbound on Dallas Highway when she attempted to make a left turn into the Village Green Shopping Center parking lot, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department. As Sibert attempted to pull into the lot, she turned into the path of a silver 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck that was westbound on Dallas Highway. Family members have found a missing 82-year-old man with dementia at a church in Lilburn. Odel Littleton of Powder Springs "is reported to be in good health and spirits," Officer Mike Bowman, a spokesman with the Cobb County Police Department, said this evening. Cobb authorities Tuesday night issued a Mattie’s Call for Littleton, who was last seen about noon Tuesday as he left his home in the 4000 block of Glenn Road in his white 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, Bowman said. A Dallas woman arrested in connection with a robbery and high-speed chase that forced authorities Monday afternoon to temporarily shut down Interstate 75 in both directions faces a new charge. Ancely Faye Green, 39, was arrested Monday on a charge of armed robbery, said Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department. Harry Brown, who was last seen at 1400 Windage Way about 6:30 p.m. Monday, was found about 2 a.m. Tuesday behind a residence "within a close proximity of where he went missing," said Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department.
