Boteler Named Executive Vice President at Chatt Tech

Trina Boteler, who has been serving the college as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the interim Vice President of Community and Economic Development, is Chattahoochee Technical College’s new Executive Vice President.

Chattahoochee Technical College President Dr. Ron Newcomb recently announced Dr. Trina Boteler of Jasper has assumed the responsibilities of a newly created position at the college.  As of Dec. 1, Boteler, who has been serving the college as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the interim Vice President of Community and Economic Development, became Chattahoochee Technical College’s new Executive Vice President. “Dr. Boteler is intimately familiar with CTC’s operational procedures and issues as well as with the vision, mission and strategic goals,” said Newcomb. “She has many years of senior-level leadership experience at multiple technical colleges and is widely respected as a high-energy and highly knowledgeable leader by the CTC …

Marietta Residents Finalists for Chatt Tech Award

Four Chattahoochee Technical College Students are in the running to becoming the college’s nominee for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership.

Four Chattahoochee Technical College students have been selected as the college’s finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Lucylle Shelton, coordinator for the CTC GOAL program. Chosen as finalists were:  According to Shelton, a screening committee of administrators at Chattahoochee Technical College selected the four finalists from a list of students nominated by their instructors.  GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students. Chatt Tech to Recruit for Technology Training Programs

Classes include heating and air conditioning, building and facilities maintenance, industrial electrical technology, electrical and computer engineering, welding and joining technology, and horticulture.

The Georgia Department of Labor’s Cobb-Cherokee Career Center will help Chattahoochee Technical College recruit unemployed workers and other students to enroll in short-term training classes for a variety of “in-demand” jobs in the technology field. The training program is entitled Jump Start Your Career in the Technology Industry.  The recruitment for the program will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the career center, located at 465 Big Shanty Rd. in Marietta. The classes will be taught during the 2013 Spring Semester, beginning January 12. Representatives of the college, including training instructors, admissions officers and financial aid personnel will be on hand to provide information about the training programs.   …

Career Expo Thursday for Veterans, Other Job Seekers

A few dozen employers from around metro Atlanta will be participating in the event, put on by the Georgia Department of Labor and Chattahoochee Technical College.

The Georgia Department of Labor’s Cartersville Career Center will assist Chattahoochee Technical College with a career expo for veterans and other job seekers on Thursday. The expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in building 400 on Chattahoochee Tech’s North Metro Campus at 5198 Ross Road in Acworth. The expo will feature a number of employers, educational institutions and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers. The employers will be hiring or discussing current and future employment opportunities, while other organizations will provide educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for job openings. Attendees are encouraged to …

Chatt Tech Increases Tuition for 2013

Students at the 25 Technical College System of Georgia colleges will pay $85 per credit hour beginning in the spring 2013 semester. As a result, tuition for a full, 15-hour course load will cost $1,275 next semester, or $150 more.

Earlier this month, the state board that oversees the Technical College System of Georgia approved a tuition increase of $10 per credit hour starting next year. “State resources continue to be tight,” said Chattahoochee Technical College President Ron Newcomb. “In order to provide our students with the quality services they deserve, this increase in tuition is necessary.” TCSG students at the 25 TCSG colleges will pay $85 per credit hour beginning in the spring 2013 semester. As a result, tuition for a full, 15-hour course load will cost $1,275 next semester, or $150 more. Chatt Tech Prepares Students for Booming Field

The new environmental technology program at the college is set to begin in the fall semester.

A new program being offered this fall at Chattahoochee Technical College’s North Metro campus will prepare students for a field that one instructor says needs more workers. The new Associate of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Technology, which will be the only two-year program in the metro Atlanta area, will train students in environmental law and ethics, field sampling and testing, hydrology, wastewater management and hazardous waste cleanup, among other things. “It’s a growing field,” said Bejie Herrin, the course instructor. “There are a lot of components. GA Workforce Panel: Collaboration Key

The panel met at Chattahoochee Technical College to discuss workforce development, training and WIA funding in Georgia.

Collaboration was the theme of a panel discussion today centered on workforce development at Chattahoochee Technical College's North Metro Campus in Acworth. Despite Georgia’s unemployment rate of 9.7 percent, employers are looking for workers, and that’s where collaboration comes into play, moderator Ron Banta said. The question is how to get workers into the jobs. One thing the state is doing is to offer its Work Ready program just to those who are unemployed as a way for them to gain skills needed to move forward, said Tricia Pridemore, the executive director of the Governor's Office of Workforce Development. I went through the Cobb Works program to get some training to help me in my job search, and although she won't admit it if asked, the lady that I talked to about which training course I was going to take said that since I was 58 years old, my options were limited. Local In Running for GOAL Award

The award honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students.

Eric Underwood of Powder Springs is one of four finalists from Chattahoochee Technical College in the running for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership. He is majoring in automotive technology. The other three are Greta Samuels of Marietta, an early childhood care and education major; Kirk Browne Jr. of Dallas, a marketing major; and Jake Jones of Canton, an air conditioning technology major.
