McEachern One Win from State Title

The Lady Indians defeated Mill Creek on Thursday to advance to the AAAAA championship.

Follow the game by clicking here.  The Lady Indians secured a spot Thursday in the AAAAA state championship by defeating Mill Creek in a matchup of two Cinderella teams. The McEachern girls used strong second and third quarters to defeat the Lady Hawks 65-56. Both teams started slowly in the first quarter. Sloppy play on both sides forced McEachern head coach Phyllis Arthur to burn a time out as her team was down by four points early. Lady Indians Top Hillgrove, Headed to Final Four

The McEachern girls basketball team knocked off the Lady Hawks for the third time this year to earn a state semifinal berth.

McEachern punched its ticket to the AAAAA Final Four with a 56-53 victory over intercity rival Hillgrove on Saturday. But this was not before Lady Indian fans got enough drama to last a short lifetime. Perhaps the most dramatic time in the game was when there was only 4.1 seconds left and McEachern led by one point, 54-53. That's when Lady Indian sophomore Mia Cooper stepped to the charity stripe to attempt two free throws. "I was just saying: 'God please let her hit both of these, and if not both, at least one," McEachern head coach Phyllis Arthur said. The sophomore answered the first of her coach's prayers by nailing both shots, giving her team a more comfortable 56-53 lead. But the game still wasn't over. Hillgrove had the ball with 4.…

Hillgrove Wins at Home

The Lady Hawks advanced Friday to the second round of the state AAAAA tournament.

On the strength of 18 points from Celina Rodrigo, the Hillgrove Lady Hawks beat the Luella Lady Lions in the first round of the Class-AAAAA state tournament on Friday, 73-50. Larryqua Hall added 17 points and freshman Mackenzie Engram scored 13 to help Hillgrove advance into the second round.
