More than 300 churches in Cobb County have been invited to join hands to pray Friday at Smyrna's Emory-Adventist Hospital.
Smyrna and Cobb County's faith community will join hands to form a "Circle of Prayer" Friday evening at Emory-Adventist Hospital in Smyrna. The event to rededicate the hospital will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, and members of more than 300 churches in Cobb County have been invited to participate. Last year, more than 250 worshippers held hands in a chain that wrapped around Emory-Adventist, Cobb and Metro Atlanta’s only faith-based hospital.

A recent study showed that travel and tourism remains the number one economic driver in Cobb County, with the industry having a total economic impact of more than $2.18 billion and employing more than 31,000 in 2011. The study performed by Robert Lann, showed a 5.1 percent increase over the previous year for economic impact and a 4.7 percent increase for employment. “The economic outcomes are highly encouraging and show how important the travel and tourism industry is to Cobb County,” said Tim Lee, chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. “Tourism is the major revenue generator and job creator for Cobb County.” Commissioned by Cobb Travel & Tourism, the study’s purpose was to gain knowledge of Cobb’s travel and tourism impact in…

Cobb Travel & Tourism launched its new mobile website last week. Smartphone users can now access and view travelcobb.org on their mobile phones in an "easy-to-use, simplified version" of the website. Visitors can explore Cobb restaurants, hotels, attractions, shopping, special local events, meeting spaces, deals, and Cobb Travel & Tourism videos, photos and social media sites on the mobile site. In the coming days, you will see a newly installed flashing yellow left-turn signal at the intersection of East-West Connector and Cooper Lake Road. The yellow arrow over the left-turn lane is part of a new signal display system that indicates to drivers more clearly when they must yield to make a left turn across traffic. Cobb County officials say the new signal system has proven to help prevent crashes, move more traffic through an intersection and provide additional traffic management flexibility. According to a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) research, motorists understood more clearly when to yield before turning left when presented with the flashing yellow arrow as opposed to the traditional solid green light. After 30 weeks of training, Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services today will welcome 31 new firefighters. The agency will hold a swearing in ceremony for class No. 42 at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Wellness Center, located at 1150 Powder Springs St. NW, Ste. 100, Marietta. The ceremony will be the culmination of weeks of training in firefighting, emergency medical services, policy and procedures, and daily physical fitness.

The county approved Tuesday to hire Willie A. Hopkins, Jr. as its new support services director, and tabled court officials' request of a grant to fund the county’s first mental health court.
The Cobb Board of Commissioners recognized volunteers and community leaders, and made a new hire to its management team Tuesday night. The board approved the appointment of Willie A. Hopkins, Jr., the assistant city manager of Pompano Beach, Florida and former director of general services for Fulton County, as Cobb's new support services director. The position manages a staff of 320 people in the area of property management, information services purchasing, and government service centers. Former director Virgil Moon retired last September to become the chief financial officer at Cobb and Douglas Public Health. I think it's a big waste of money, I used to live off this road and this left turn is very dangerous. The flashing yellow does nothing at all to prevent accidents, people always knew that they were yielding when going left, they either didn't care or were getting pressured by people behind them when they couldn't see oncoming traffic due to the car coming toward them also taking a left.   more ›
