West Cobb Again Under Flood Watch

The watch will be in effect Monday morning through Tuesday evening.

Cobb County residents will probably want to get the umbrellas handy once again. The National Weather Service Sunday night issued a flood watch for north and central Georgia, including Cobb County. The watch takes effect at 7 a.m. today and is set to run until Tuesday evening. “This round of moderate to heavy rain comes closely on the heels of this past weekend’s heavy rains which have left soils saturated and rivers and streams already running high,” the weather advisory stated. “Localized flash flooding will be possible if the heavy rain repeatedly moves over the same area.” Cobb was under a flood watch late last week as well. Flood Watch In Effect Through Saturday

A slow-moving weather system will move over Cobb and the metro Atlanta area.

A flood watch is in effect from Atlanta southward through Saturday afternoon due to the potential for flooding in creeks, streams and flood-prone areas. A slow-moving weather system will move over Atlanta through Saturday producing more than four inches of rain across central Georgia with up to an inch of rain possible in Atlanta. Showers moved in Thursday night and will continue today with a second round of scattered rain moving in Friday night through Saturday morning. Temperatures in the East Cobb area are expected to reach the low 50s Friday afternoon and drop into the mid 40s tonight. Flood Watch In Effect Through Wednesday Morning

Meteorologists say the rain might not leave Cobb until Thursday night.

Cobb County could continue to see rain through most of Thursday, but today’s showers and the short-term forecast have led weather experts to issue a flood watch for north Georgia through the first part of Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that will be in effect until Wednesday morning. Meteorologists say the widespread showers with periods of heavy rain are expected to occur during the watch. Rains have already made the area’s soil wet, which will help in producing runoff as the wet weather continues. The weather service says minor flooding in smaller creeks, streams and low-lying flood-prone areas are possible.
