Video: Classes from West Cobb Artist Offer Hope

Diane Vehar, who lost her husband in 2010 and is in her second battle with cancer, teaches the community how painting can provide relief amid sickness and mourning.

Sickness. The loss of a loved one. Being alone in the early morning hours when you can't sleep. Such struggles are what Diane Vehar encourages those who attend her "Art for Your Soul" classes to paint as backgrounds in the form of random brushstrokes going this way and that. Then, for the foreground, she recommends a solid focal point that offers inspiration, like a cross or pink breast cancer ribbon, as well as related words—hope, faith, love. Vehar, 55, is a Powder Springs resident, member of the West Cobb Business Association, and the sales and marketing manager for Signs & More in Cartersville. Classes to Benefit Artist in Cancer Battle

Powder Springs resident Diane Vehar, who is in her second bout with the disease, is set to host "Art with Soul".

Three upcoming art classes in Powder Springs will benefit their teacher as she battles cancer for the second time. Diane Vehar—a Powder Springs resident, member of the West Cobb Business Association, and the sales and marketing manager for Signs & More in Cartersville—will host and teach "Art with Soul" at her house on: The classes will include instruction on canvas painting. The $30 donation covers the materials and will go to Vehar's medical treatment and bills.  There are also possibilities of future classes. A Day for Women Amid a Fight Against Breast Cancer

Fox's Trotters, a local Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure team, hosted their first Women's Day: Celebrating and Loving Her event on Sunday.

"Every 69 seconds, a women dies from breast cancer," explained Nichelle Fox to a crowd of men and women attending the first Women's Day: Celebrating and Loving Her event at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center on Sunday. The event, hosted by Fox and her local Susan G. Komen for the Cure team, Fox's Trotters, was aimed at offering women a relaxing evening of catering services and performances, coupled with sobering information about breast cancer awareness. Event proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in its efforts for find a cure for breast cancer.
