Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Smyrna-Vinings and Cobb County, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation. Beginning May 28, Cobb SOT staff is scheduled to begin work replacing the existing, substandard, weight-restricted bridge on Hopkins Road over Wildhorse Creek. In addition, pedestrian accommodations will be enhanced with the extension of the sidewalk on the west side to connect to the Silver Comet Trail. Hopkins Road will be closed at the bridge for approximately two months once work begins. Signed detour routes will be provided during construction. Construction work could soon begin on resurfacing State Route 120 in Cobb and Paulding counties. The Georgia Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to resurface 7.123 miles of SR 120, beginning east of the Paulding-Cobb line and extending to John Ward Road in Cobb. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of December at a cost of $2,601,939. Construction alerts and lane closure schedules will be announced before work begins.
