The county's 7.8 percent jobless rate rose in January.
Cobb County's 7.8 percent jobless rate beat the statewide and metro Atlanta unemployment rates of 8.7 percent. One of the state's larger counties, Cobb had a 7.8 percent unemployment rate in January. That's two tenths of a percent higher than it was the previous month, but it's eight tenths of a percent lower than it was a year ago, when the rate was 8.6 percent. Cobb had 381,085 people in the labor force in December, and 29,693 of them were counted as jobless. The county lost 754 people from its labor force in a month's time. Cobb County's 28,922 unemployed residents drove its jobless rate up in December, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.
Cobb County beat the statewide and metro Atlanta unemployment rates of 8.6 and 8.4 percent respectively. One of the state's larger county's, Cobb had a 7.6 percent unemployment rate last month. That's fourth tenths of a percent higher than it was the previous month, but it's half a percent lower than it was a year ago.
