Governors Gun Club has been granted permission to obtain a serving license in our members lounge. The lounge is not available to the general public or all club members. The lounge is only accessed by key cards issued to a limited group of members (Full Metal Jacket Members). All food and beverage services will be charged to the member’s account allowing tracking of their beverage purchases. Once a beverage is purchased on the customer’s account, the account is flagged and they cannot be checked into the range that day. Full Metal Jacket Members who wish to have a drink after shooting have available to them Gun Valet Service. This service allows their firearms to be stored in the facility vault until a future visits. Additionally, the …

The Powder Springs City Council last week voted 3-2 to grant an alcohol license to the Governor's Gun Club, being built at the corner of C.H. James Parkway and Sterlingbrooke Drive. The vote has grabbed local and national attention, and caused debates on safety and whether possible risks outweigh offering members the option to drink. The small selection of alcohol would be served during the hours allowed by Powder Springs law and in a lounge secured with a special key given just to members. The only people under 21 who could enter are the children of members, and they wouldn’t be allowed to drink. Guns would not be permitted in the lounge, and once inside, customers couldn’t return to the shooting range. A gun valet system with lockers …

Not everyone agreed to the City Council's approval Monday, with one resident saying: "Alcohol and guns do not mix."
One of the two alcohol licenses approved by the Powder Springs City Council Monday came with little discussion and no debate. It was for wine and beers sales for the recently opened Loma Pizzeria on Sailors Parkway. The council approved the license 4-1, with Councilwoman Nancy Hudson dissenting, as she typically does on alcohol issues. But the other license, requested by the owners of the $3.5 million Governor’s Gun Club being built at the corner of C.H. James Parkway and Sterlingbrooke Drive, was full of points and rebuttals before being approved 3-2. The small selection of alcohol would be served during the hours allowed by Powder Springs law and in a lounge secured with a special key given just to members. The only people under 21 who …

The event will include refreshments, gun manufacturers and a raffle contest for a Glock 19 pistol.
Everyone in the community is invited to next month’s groundbreaking ceremony for Powder Springs’ new gun and archery range. “The more the merrier,” said Bert Brown, business development manager for the Acworth-based EGAD Architectural and Engineering, which specializes in gun ranges. The event for Governor’s Gun Club is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 16 at its future location at the corner of C.H. James Parkway and Sterlingbrooke Drive. It will include refreshments, gun manufacturers and a raffle contest for a Glock 19 pistol. Brown originally hoped to have the $3.5 million facility finished by this month after receiving the City Council’s approval in November 2011, but delays popped up. “It’s been a long-time coming,” he said. “…

Meanwhile, memberships will be offered for the first time this weekend for the $3.5 million facility, which is now shooting for an August or September opening.
Bert Brown originally hoped to have the $3.5 million Governors Gun Club in Powder Springs finished by June, but that was if construction had started immediately after City Council approval in November. He's now shooting for August or September as details are being further hashed out with the bank and the city. And as for the groundbreaking ceremony, there isn't a set date yet. "We’re getting really close," said Brown, business development manager for the Acworth-based EGAD Architectural and Engineering, which specializes in gun ranges. "It’s just hard to say whether we’re four weeks or six weeks away” from the groundbreaking. Meanwhile, those who are ready to get their feet in the door will have their first chance to purchase charter range…

The 19,000-square-foot facility will be located at the corner of Sterlingbrooke Drive and Highway 278.
Bert and Kristina Brown hope to have their gun range at the corner of Sterlingbrooke Drive and Highway 278 in Powder Springs complete by June. “This isn’t a typical hole-in-the-wall firing range,” Bert Brown told the City Council at Wednesday’s work session. “Basically the total price tag on the project is about $3.5 million. It’s basically kind of like a country club of a firing range.” Before construction can proceed, the council must approve a special use permit and a few other approvals at Monday’s 7 p.m. meeting in the Community Development building. Bert Brown is the business development manager for Acworth-based EGAD Architectural and Engineering, which specializes in gun ranges. Kristina, his wife, is his client in the project. …

For some reason my earlier reply did not post. I will attempt part of it again. I am far from a teetotaling prohibitionist. In fact, I WELCOMED the vote on Sunday alcohol sales. I thought it was high time that the state of Georgia got into the 21st century. I have concerns not only for the citizens and the drivers in the area, one of whom could be ME or my daughter with her little girls, but also…   more ›
