Newsweek has ranked Harrison High School as the 641th high school in the country. Deangelo Damond Harris was booked into the Cobb County jail on a charge of sale of marijuana.

A 17-year-old Harrison High student spent part of Friday and Saturday in the Cobb County jail after he allegedly sold marijuana to a 15-year-old student on campus. According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, someone reported their suspicions about Deangelo Damond Harris and the 15-year-old male student to an assistant principal. The administrator met with the 15-year-old boy. "While walking to (the) principal's office, the 15-year-old was asked if he had anything he should not have on campus," according to the warrant. "The student responded, 'Yes, I have drugs in my bag.' " From a bag, the student removed a plastic prescription bottle containing less than one ounce of suspected marijuana, records show. Harrison and Hillgrove Make America's Most Challenging High Schools List

Nine other Cobb schools made the list.

Hillgrove and Harrison High schools are two of 11 Cobb County schools included in The Washington Post's list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools. Harrison is No. 35 and Hillgrove is No. 95 in the state, according to The Post. Walton High School had the highest ranking of any Cobb County school, coming in at No. 3 on the state list and No. 163 on the national list. The Post's ranking system calculates the number of advanced placement, international baccalaureate and advanced international certificate of education tests given at a school each year, and divides it by the number of seniors who graduated that year. A ratio of 1.000 means the school had as many tests as graduates. Other Cobb high schools that made the list include: For …

Police Seek More Victims in Teen's Alleged Child Porn Scheme

"We won't have any comment," a man who answered the door at Michael William Cook's home said today.

The Harrison High student who allegedly posted naked photos of at least eight children on pornographic websites created a company to gain the trust of the juveniles. Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said Friday that authorities believe Michael William Cook operated under the company name Maxi Focus Photography between Nov. 1, 2012, and Jan. 1, the time frame that he allegedly posted onto pornographic websites individuals’ "naked" or "erotic" photos that he obtained through fraudulent means. The individuals depicted in the images are all under the age of 18, records show. One was 14 years old at the time the photo was taken. The children attend "several high schools," according to WSB-TV. "He was using Maxi Focus Photography as a ruse to…

My heart does not go out to his mother. My heart goes out to all the children who were used wrongfully. I teach my daughter to observe purdah, so this would not happen to her. He deserves to be punished. He was manipulative--he created a company that hurt, abused and exposed innocent children. It feeds a sick population. No doubt it was all about the money. My heart also goes out to the police …   more ›

No Word on Reason for Harrison Coach's Departure

Marty Galbraith, who was as an assistant special teams coach for the Tennessee Titans from 2005-11, resigned from the Cobb School District last week.

Reasons remained unclear Monday on why first-year Harrison High head football coach Marty Galbraith resigned last week. Citing this being a personnel matter, Cobb School District spokesman Doug Goodwin couldn’t provide details other than Galbraith quit Wednesday and that the physical education classes he taught are being covered by a “supply teacher.” “That’s all I can confirm is that he’s no longer employed in the district,” Goodwin told Patch. Galbraith left the Hoyas with a 4-3 overall record—and 3-2 in Region 4-6A play—that includes wins over Woodstock and region rivals Campbell, Pebblebrook and Kennesaw Mountain. They’re now 4-4 after Friday’s loss to region opponent Hillgrove, and are sixth out of Region 4-6A’s nine teams. Most …
