Unemployment Rate Drops Below 7 Percent in Cobb

More county residents found jobs in April.

The unemployment rate in Cobb County dropped below 7 percent in April, a fall of three tenths of a percent. Almost 1,000 more county residents were working than in the previous month. Cobb County's Unemployment Drops to to 7.1%

The county's March unemployment rate was more than 1 percent below last year's figure.

Cobb County's overall unemployment rate was 7.1 percent, a decline of three tenths of a percent compared to February's rate. The number of employed workers rose by 1,177 in March, with the labor force increasing by 157 people to 377,648. A year ago the county's jobelss rate was 8.3 percent. The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that metro Atlanta’s unemployment rate declined to 7.9 percent in March from 8.3 percent in February. The rate was 8.9 percent in March a year ago. The rate declined because of an increase in the number of jobs and fewer new layoffs. Cobb's Unemployment Rate Stays Below 8%

The county's 7.8 percent jobless rate rose in January.

Cobb County's 7.8 percent jobless rate beat the statewide and metro Atlanta unemployment rates of 8.7 percent. One of the state's larger counties, Cobb had a 7.8 percent unemployment rate in January. That's two tenths of a percent higher than it was the previous month, but it's eight tenths of a percent lower than it was a year ago, when the rate was 8.6 percent. Cobb had 381,085 people in the labor force in December, and 29,693 of them were counted as jobless. The county lost 754 people from its labor force in a month's time. Cobb County Jobless Rate on the Rise

Cobb County's 28,922 unemployed residents drove its jobless rate up in December, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

Cobb County beat the statewide and metro Atlanta unemployment rates of 8.6 and 8.4 percent respectively. One of the state's larger county's, Cobb had a 7.6 percent unemployment rate last month. That's fourth tenths of a percent higher than it was the previous month, but it's half a percent lower than it was a year ago. Cobb had 360,618 people in the labor force in December, and 28,922 of them were counted as jobless. The county added more than 6,500 people to its labor force in a year's time. Job Picture Brightens in the Springs

The unemployment rate fell in Cobb and Douglas counties in November.

More people are working on both sides of the county line between Powder Springs and Lithia Springs. Cobb County’s jobless rate dropped 0.7 percentage point in November to 8.4 percent, according to preliminary figures the Georgia Department of Labor released Thursday. The rate improved from 9.1 percent in October, 9.4 percent in September and 9.7 percent in November 2010. In Douglas County, the unemployment rate fell to 10.2 percent in November from 10.8 percent a month earlier and 11.3 percent a year earlier. The countywide rate was 11 percent in September. Cobb, Douglas Gain Jobs in October

The unemployment rate drops in both counties, the state Labor Department reports.

More people are working in both Cobb County and Douglas County, according to preliminary figures from the Georgia Department of Labor. The unemployment rate in Cobb County dropped to 9.1 percent in October from 9.4 percent in September and from 9.6 percent in October 2010. In Douglas County, the rate fell to 10.8 percent in October from 11 percent in September, matching the 10.8 percent rate of October 2010. The local numbers are not adjusted for seasonal factors. The improvement in the counties around Powder Springs and Lithia Springs paralleled the improvement for the official metro Atlanta area, where the October rate was 9.9 percent, down from 10.2 percent in September and in October 2010.
