Video: Perfect McEachern Whips Westlake, Advances in Playoffs

The 93-50 wins sends the Lady Indians into the third round as expectations of them going all the way continue.

Tuesday's playoff win over the Westlake Lady Lions was what someone might envision a Lady Indians highlight reel to look like. A swarming defense. Frequent steals, followed by full-court passes, followed by layups. Blocked shots. Even a half-court buzzer-beater from senior Dominique Wilson. Such things happened more frequently after the Lady Lions kept it close in the very beginning. But by the end of the first, it was 29-13; Wilson's buzzer three-pointer sent the teams into the locker room at 61-29. Towards the end, Westlake was throwing up threes in hopes of a late comeback, even making a few of them from a couple feet off the line. Video: McEachern's Wilson Hits from Half Court

The shot was made just before halftime in the Lady Indians 93-50 playoff win over Westlake.

McEachern senior Dominique Wilson, who will be heading to the University of Arkansas next year, knocked down a long-range three as the halftime buzzer sounded Tuesday against Westlake. Funeral Monday for Ex-McEachern Coach

Charles Collins, who led the Indians football squad from 1976 to 1982 after playing professionally, was struck and killed by a car Thursday.

The funeral for Charles Collins will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Smyrna First United Methodist Church, with a reception afterward. No visitaion is planned. Charles Collins, who coached McEachern football for six years after playing for Auburn, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Canadian Football League, died Thursday after being struck by a car. Collins, 66, was walking across Atlanta Road about 7 p.m. near the Paces Ferry Road intersection when he was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, Cobb police said. The driver, 25-year-old Nicholas W. Bryant of Carrolton, was not injured and is not expected to be charged. Collins, who lived in Smyrna, was taken to Emory…

Several Locals in State Wrestling Tourney

Athletes from Hillgrove, Lithia Springs and McEachern are set to compete in the championships Thursday through Saturday.

Several local athletes are set to compete in the traditional wrestling state championships Thursday through Saturday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Below are the bouts listed in the first round. Hillgrove (5A brackets) McEachern (5A brackets) Lithia Springs (4A brackets) Admission Admission price is $7 on Thursday and $10 per day on Friday and Saturday. A total tournament ticket is available for $24. Tickets are on sale at the arena's box office. Lineman 1 of 2 Indians Ever Named 'Parade All-American'

Darius English, a South Carolina commit, joins 1992 McEachern graduate Adam Meadows, who played 12 years in the NFL.

McEachern defensive lineman Darius English was honored at this week's basketball game against Hillgrove for being named to Parade's 49th annual All-America High School Football Team. He is one of 53 seniors nationwide selected by the magazine, and the Marietta Daily Journal reports that he is the only Georgian. In the team's 49 years, 12 All-Americans went on to win the Heisman Trophy. Only one other McEachern player has been named a Parade All-American: 1992 graduate Adam Meadows, who spent 12 years in the NFL. At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, English will join teammate Nick St. Germain, a kicker, next year at South Carolina. Hillgrove had a seven-point lead going into halftime, but McEachern's strong second half gave them the 65-57 win.

Hillgrove had the clear upper hand in the first half of play Tuesday night, taking a 31-24 lead into the locker room. But a dominating second half would give McEachern the eventual 65-57 win at home. The Indians (12-10) have two regular season games remaining: Pebblebrook on Friday and Kennesaw Mountain on Saturday. The Hawks (15-9) will take on South Cobb on Friday for the last game. Video: Lady Indians Beat Hillgrove, Stay Perfect

The 43-37 victory over the Lady Hawks puts McEachern at 23-0 on the season with two games left before the playoffs.

The nationally ranked McEachern girls basketball scored immediately after the tipoff Monday night, stole Hillgrove's first possession, scored again, and never looked back. The Lady Indians (23-0) worked the scoreboard to 19-12 going into halftime at home, and finished the game 43-37. The Lady Hawks, a powerhouse themselves, move to 19-3. The remaining two McEachern games are Pebblebrook (Friday) and Kennesaw Mountain (Saturday). Hillgrove will take on South Cobb Friday for the last game of the regular season. McEachern Athletic Director Gives Update on Winter Sports

The girls basketball team is continuing their quest for a state championship and to remain undefeated, Jim Dorsey says in the latest edition of the McEachern Messenger.

By Jim Dorsey We are fast approaching the conclusion of our winter sports season. Basketball has a few regular season contests left to play and will begin the Region Tournament on Feb. 13, with the higher seeded teams hosting; finals will be at Hillgrove High. Information regarding these games will be available soon. Coach Arthur and our girls team continue their quest for a State Championship and to remain undefeated, ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 4 in the country, according to the USA Today polls. They have some big battles left within region play as many top-notch teams reside right here in our backyard. McEachern Releases 2012 Football Schedule

The Indians will kick off the regular season against Grayson in the Corky Kell Classic and will finish against intercity rival Hillgrove.

The Indians are looking to build off a successful 10-2 football season that ended in a 20-17 upset by Lassiter in the second round of the playoffs. They'll join the newly created 6A class for the biggest high schools in Georgia. Here's McEachern's 2012 schedule:
