The Web is a part of everyday life, and as 2012 comes to a close, it's interesting to see which online properties are the most used. No surprise on no. 1: Google, the top online search engine, is no. 1, according to Nielsen information. And YouTube, the leading video sharing site which is owned by Google, is no. 4. Facebook, the mammoth social networking site, is no. 2. It had almost 153 million unique visitors per month, according to Nielsen. Also worth noting: AOL Media Network was at No. 7, with 86.6 million unique visitors per month. (AOL is the parent company of Patch.com). Yahoo, still strong in search and also a leader in online content, was at No. 3. Which web sites do you use most? Share your online favorites in the comments below.

Meet Jon Gargis, your new editor for West Cobb Patch.
Today’s a milestone for yours truly for two reasons. The first is that it was two years ago today that I began working for Patch.com. More importantly for you, dear reader, is that today marks the start of my first full week as editor of West Cobb Patch. (Admittedly, I began last week, but I thought I’d hold off on a formal introduction until after the Thanksgiving weekend.) I come to West Cobb Patch from neighboring Dallas-Hiram Patch, which I still oversee. But as the new editor as well as a fellow resident of West Cobb, I’m committed to making your Patch a great source of information and a service that will make your life easier. As much as I'd like to cover every business, every school, every church, every community group and every …

In these past two years, your passion for your community is what has stuck out the most.
Well, West Cobb, my time as a Patch editor has come to an end. These past two years have been fun and exciting, challenging and trying, and above all else, a huge learning experience. The No. 1 lesson you taught me: This community has passion. Passion for involvement in local government and schools. Passion for the success of your children, in the classroom, on the field, and in the future. Passion for helping one another. Passion for keeping the community clean. Passion for life, plain and simple. The business owners of Powder Springs and West Cobb are an extremely friendly and welcoming bunch, always going out of their way for customers and each another. This is nowhere more true than in downtown Powder Springs, where everyone truly does…

Ashley Playford dressed up as a pirate carrying a mermaid this Halloween. Well, actually, she dressed up as the mermaid. Well...Her creativity has earned her the title of Patch's Best Halloween Costume in America and a $5,000 grand prize. It was Playford's use of an optical illusion that won us over. Take a look at the photo she entered on Peekskill-Cortlandt Patch! Almost 4,000 Patch users entered the contest from Oct. 15 to Nov. 5, with costumes ranging from the Eiffel Tower and Honey Boo Boo to a flower pot and a clever interpretation of "binders full of women." National judges chose one finalist from each Patch state based on who had the most creative and innovative costume (we combined North Carolina and South Carolina for this …
