PHOTOS: Hillgrove Knocks Off North Gwinnett

The Lady Hawks will get a fourth shot at ending rival McEachern's perfect season.

The Lady Indians remain undefeated as they reach the state championship game for the second consecutive year.

McEachern jumped out to an 11-2 lead to start the game, built a 13-point lead early in the fourth quarter and held on for a 64-61 win over two-time defending state champion Norcross during the Georgia High School Association AAAAA girls semifinals Thursday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Powder Springs Reigns in Girls AAAAA

McEachern will play Hillgrove tonight for the state title.

The eyes of Powder Springs will be on the Gwinnett Arena tonight when crosstown rivals McEachern and Hillgrove play for the Georgia High School Association's AAAAA girls championship. Te fourth meeting of the season between the Lady Indians and Lady Hawks was set up Thursday when McEachern beat two-time defending state champion Norcross, 64-61, and Hillgrove defeated North Gwinnett, 56-51. McEachern, Hillgrove Girls in Final Four

The Powder Springs powerhouses remain on track for a crosstown clash in the championship game.

McEachern and Hillgrove did what they were expected to do Saturday in the Georgia High School Association girls basketball tournament, pounding fellow Region 4-AAAAA schools North Cobb and Harrison to reach the AAAAA Final Four. McEachern beat fellow Region 4-AAAAA school Harrison for the fourth time this season to raise its record to 31-0, while the Lady Hoyas ended the year 16-15. After beating Harrison by 57 points two weeks ago and coming off a 43-point win and 61-point first half against Westlake, the top-ranked Lady Indians had a sluggish start in Fort Valley and led only 29-14 at halftime, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. McEachern, Hillgrove Girls Roll

Region 4-AAAAA again looks powerful in the state girls basketball tournament.

This year’s Georgia High School Association AAAAA girls basketball tournament started out just like last year’s—with Region 4-AAAAA dominating. Last year all four 4-AAAAA entrants—McEachern, North Cobb, Hillgrove and Campbell—made the quarterfinals, and the only teams that beat 4-AAAAA teams were other teams from the region and state champion Norcross. Friday night, all four 4-AAAAA teams—McEachern, Hillgrove, North Cobb and Harrison—won their first-round games against Region 3-AAAAA teams, and they’re a Tuesday-night sweep away from matching 2011’s quarterfinal quartet.
