It appears that when you want to get away without really going away, you go to Bartow County. In this week’s regional Readers’ Choice survey of staycation destinations, three of the top four vote-getters are Cartersville sites: Tellus Science Museum, Pine Mountain Recreation Area and Booth Western Art Museum. And even though six of the 19 poll options are in Cartersville Patch, commenters complained about a couple of the Cartersville sites we left off the list. So it’s only fitting that this week’s Readers’ Choice for favorite staycation destination is in Cartersville: the Tellus museum. Sweetwater Creek State Park in Douglasville Patch actually received the most votes, getting 27 percent. But we give equal weight to reviews and ratings of…

Memorial Day is only three weeks away, meaning summer vacation season is almost here. But with gas prices still above $3.50 a gallon and round-trip airfare for a family of four running more than $1,200 to get just about anywhere, a staycation is an enticing option. You avoid the expense and stress of travel. You don’t have to stop the mail or board the pets. But you still get the time away from work and with your family. The challenge is to avoid getting bored or spending hour after hour in front of the TV. That’s where staycation destinations come into play. You need entertaining options for the whole family, from parks to museums to historical sites. That’s what this week’s Readers’ Choice is all about. What’s your favorite place to go …

Patch readers chose the business this week as their go-to place for all things flowers in West Cobb.
Patch readers overwhelmingly picked the Powder Springs Florist, now part of PearTree Interiors & Gifts, as their favorite florist in West Cobb. In this week's Readers' Choice poll, the downtown Powder Springs business received 94 percent of the vote over the competition—three area Kroger stores. PearTree owner Kim Kornblatt bought the neighboring floral shop in November from retiring Joe and Barbara Sutton, who bought the business themselves in 1987. It first opened in 1978. "It’s awesome (being picked as a Readers' Choice), especially after Joe having it for so many years," Kornblatt said.
