As sometimes happens in our world of instant communication, there are many incorrect rumors circulating, so I wanted to provide you with factual information. While on her morning Hillgrove bus run, the driver of Bus 1466 became ill. Following emergency protocol, she pulled the bus over to the side of the road. Using her bus radio, she attempted to contact her dispatcher and explain what was happening and provide her location. Cobb police cited three drivers on the first day of school for not stopping for school bus stop-arms. Sgt. Dana Pierce said he didn't have any information on citations that might have been issued Tuesday and Wednesday. This comes a month after the Cobb Board of Education approved an agreement with American Traffic Solutions to issue tickets for failing to stop for the arms, which are designed to protect students entering and leaving buses. The agreement allows ATS to collect $300 from first-time violators. Other penalties include a possible court appearance, a fine up to $1,000, six points on a driving record and a license suspension for convicted drivers under 21 years old, Cobb Commissioner Helen Goreham said. Parents of rising kindergartners are invited on a trial run of their child’s routes.
Parents of rising Cobb County kindergartners are invited on a trial run of their child’s bus route Friday, Aug. 10. “The district offers this opportunity to help families introduce Cobb's youngest students to the school bus and make our first day on Monday, Aug. 13 run more smoothly,” the school system says in a news release. The district asks that only kindergarteners and their parents participate in the trial run because of space limitations. Parents are asked to arrive at their child’s bus stop five minutes before pickup. Bus drivers will complete the entire route to and from school before dropping passengers off at their stops.
