3 McEachern Wrestlers Alive at County Championships

With no way to upend first-place Pope for a team victory, three Indians look for individual titles at the U.S. Army Cobb County Invitational.

Three McEachern High wrestlers still have a crack at individual titles in the U.S. Army Cobb County Invitational at Sprayberry High School, but earning the team trophy is virtually out of reach for the Indians. Three-time defending champion Pope has 104 points and 11 semifinalists. Following Friday’s two rounds, McEachern (39.5 points) sits in ninth place in the 17-team field. Kell (58), Harrison (52), Marietta (51.5) and Kennesaw Mountain round out the top five behind Pope. Still in championship contention for McEachern are Jordano Figueroa (130), Joey Visockis (160) and Jonathan Hill (171). 4 Wrestlers Lead Hillgrove Into Semis

The Hawks sit in sixth place and will look for their small contingent to advance deep on Saturday in the U.S. Army Cobb County Invitational.

Four semifinalists will lead Hillgrove into the second day of the U.S. Army Cobb County Invitational at Sprayberry High School. Cameron Westerman (103 pounds), Dillon Boyette (119), Tyler Ray (130) and Eli Wynter (171) all survived the first two rounds. With 43 points, the Hawks sit in sixth place in the 17-team field. Pope is the runaway leader, well ahead of second-place Kell (58) and No. 3 Harrison (52). After a first-round bye in the 103-pound weight class, Westerman pinned Marietta’s Akeia Miles at 4:26 in the second round. Boyette followed a first-round bye with a pin of Harrison’s Theresa Bernard at 1:22 of the 119-pound quarterfinals.
