Donations Sought for Senior Santa Event

The East Cobb Senior Center is among the dropoff points in Cobb County.

Cobb Senior Services is looking for donations for its seventh annual Senior Santa on Dec. 14. This special event is an excellent opportunity for homebound seniors in Cobb to enjoy an afternoon of holiday cheer, food, gifts and fellowship with others. Residents can help by donating new generic items or making a $30 donation to adopt a senior for the event. Suggested items for donation include bath sets, combs, brushes, pajamas, healthy snacks, hat and glove sets, gift cards, blood pressure monitors, pens and pencils, postage stamps, stocking stuffers and large print books. Cobb Seniors in Need of Food Delivery

The county's Meals on Wheels program is asking for drivers in Marietta, Smyrna, Austell, Mableton and Powder Springs.

Cobb Senior Services is in need of volunteer drivers in Marietta, Smyrna, Austell, Mableton and Powder Springs. If you have some time to volunteer as a MoW driver, or if you belong to an organization or business that would like to “Adopt-A-Route,” call Volunteer Services at 770-528-5381.  Cobb County is fortunate to have Meals on Wheels, a unique program that brings homebound, frail seniors a hot meal on a daily basis. Senior Cats Looking for Senior Adults

The two groups are coming together through a partnership between Cobb Senior Services and Cobb County Animal Control.

Cobb Senior Services and Cobb County Animal Control are partnering to help senior cats find homes with senior adults. "Cats make wonderful companions and are relatively easy to care for, offering unconditional love," a release from the county says. There will be four free opportunities this summer to learn more about: "Open your heart and home to an older cat that might otherwise be put down," the release says. Donations Get You Senior Center Naming Rights

The price range for Cobb's new Senior Wellness Center goes from $30 for a brick to $125,000 for the whole facility.

Cobb Senior Services is accepting donations as low as $30 that allow you to leave your mark on the new Senior Wellness Center, the 42,000-square-foot facility being built in the former Powder Springs Station shopping center. The property, located at 1150 Powder Springs St. four miles south of the Marietta Square, will also house Cobb County Community Development and the Property Management offices. The wellness center itself will contain the existing Marietta Neighborhood Center, Senior Services' administrative offices, a multipurpose center and senior clinic.
