My family has gotten live trees from Sleepy Hollow Tree Farm for years. It makes a great family Christmas adventure and builds memories of searching for the perfect tree, then cutting it down and taking it home to decorate. The farm is located off Hwy 92 between Douglasville and Hiram. To find out more check out their website at www.sleepyhollowtrees.com.

Well balanced article, however, Mr. Hulsey had worked in the Insurance business prior to this position. Although his salary was reported at $48,000, with the commissions he was receiving I believe he actually took a pay cut to accept this job. You may want to clearify this point.

First, I was aware of the Mayor and City Manager’s trip to Washington before the trip, because I make an effort to stay informed. I made an effort to talk to them about the trip once they returned and read Mr. Hulsey’s report in his weekly written summary he does for the Council. Once again, Mr. Bevirt, you have misquoted me. What my email reply to you stated was, “The Cobb Chamber of Commerce makes this trip annually and City Officials are invited to attend and meet with their national representatives. This builds relationships with the representative which can help the Cities. Being on the Council for 12 years I would have thought you would have known this along with the answer to your other questions. These relationships have helped the City in the past with projects such as the Ford Center Complex and the Railroad Rail yard fight, which you were closely involved.” Furthermore, I did some investigating of my own. Over your 12 years on the City Council you made several trips to Washington, DC, with expenses paid for by City funds. There is even a picture in City Hall of you in Washington with other City Officials, National Representatives and the City Manager at that time. You know well these trips can benefit the City and although there may not be a specific lobbing point or agenda at the time of the visits, the relationships built with our National Representatives can be important to the City and Citizens in the future.

I assure you I will pick the best person for the job. Some may not like my choice, but I and the other council members have to work with the person we choose.

I did not intend this to sound rude, but only stating a point of view after reviewing your past posts. The rest of the response was only stating information. As history has shown, finding a City Manager who fits well with the City has been difficult. All the current three candidates have strengths and weaknesses; we just have to decide who the best fit is for the City. No matter whom we choose, some citizens will complain, those using pens names and choosing to remain anonymous probably louder than others, but doing what is right for the City now and into the future is my top priority.

    Dear Longtime Resident,
On review of your posts on the Patch you seem very pessimistic and unhappy in Powder Springs. I’m sure your Representative will vote for the best overall candidate for City Manager. Education is important, but so are work ethic, fiscal responsibility, leadership skills, honesty and good old common sense. Just because someone looks good on paper doesn’t guarantee they will make a good City Manager. We all learn from our own past experiences. Only a fool would not list a favorable reference on his or her application. Now that the finalist names are public investigate them on your own, in this age of the internet it’s amazing what is out there.

  • On the article Lewis Extension a 'Road to Nowhere'?

I too have joked about the “road to nowhere” when referring to the current Lewis Road Extension. As it stands now that is somewhat true. Unfortunately when this road was built in the past few years the funds were not available to complete it in its entirety, as was planned. This completion is connecting it to the RDS Parkway and allows a better corridor through town. I have noticed more cars using the road than when it was opened, but admit it is still underutilized. The new project will not only extend the road to RDS Parkway, but redesign the current one way intersection at the red light on Marietta Street to allow two-way traffic. This will allow better access through town in the future when the railroad has plans to double or triple track the crossing at Brownsville Road and will hopefully open up the Lewis Road Extension for future commercial development along the road and in the downtown area.

I agree. One should be able to vote nonpartisan and see the entire ticket of choices if the runoff is essentially the final election. Even in the primary elections, many people, I beleve, don't care so much about partisan politics as getting the best person for the job into office.
