Tom Doolittle has been a Northlake area resident since 1993 with wife Evelyn Lee and children James (Lakeside 2007) and Katherine-Lee (Lakeside 2013). Doolittle was a charter Trustee of the Northlake Community Alliance in 2000 and 2001 and convened the Northlake Business Forum between 2002 and 2004 and writes a Northlake blog. Tom wrote the Northlake Romance monthly column for Community Review newspaper (Decatur) and news/events for the GoDeKalb website between 2004 and 2009. Doolittle actively contributes to various Patch websites and has written a series of articles on his blog regarding the cityhood trend and application in what is now termed “North Central Dekalb”.

Tom had a 20-year career in environmental and sustainable development policy and marketing—following graduating from the University of Virginia with B.S and Masters degrees in civil engineering. He was on teams that eventually redeveloped the Norfolk Southern Carlyle Rail Yards in Alexandria, Virginia and the Volunteer Army Depot in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Doolittle authored the charter and 501-c-3 application for the Northlake Community Alliance and much of the $450,000 Northlake Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grant application to the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Tom is convinced that the Northlake business center will one day be a viable healthy center of a larger jurisdiction, energized by attraction to a commuter rail station from riders from parts of five zip codes; 30345, 30341, 30340, 30033 and 30084. New affiliation with Northlake area will be enhanced by the trend toward walkable town living.

Doolittle is an avid tennis player and tennis team organizer. He currently teaches locally at Hit Atlanta Tennis Center. He has served on boards for Henderson Mill Elementary School, St. Bedes Episcopal Church and Leslie Beach Swim and Tennis Club. Tom has also organized a short history walking tour of the original Greenville Henderson property assemblage, including Henderson’s Mill location--all within a few hundred yards of St. Bede’s church.
